Jimi Hendrix's 'Valleys of Neptune' to release March 9

Even though the rock icon was active for only 9 years, he set the stage on fire with his performances at the Woodstock Festival in 1969

New York, January 12 -- Jimi Hendrix fans have a reason to celebrate. Hendrix’s 40-year-old album called ‘Valleys of Neptune’ is all set to release on March 9.

The album, a 12-track collection of Hendrix’s unreleased music, was put together by “The Experience Hendrix Group” run by his sister Janie.

Studio versions of Hendrix's covers “Bleeding Heart”, “Sunshine of Your Love,” “Fire,” “Red House” and “Stone Free,” are among those included in the album. Some of these songs are taken from his last recording sessions.

“My brother Jimi was at home in the studio. Valleys of Neptune offers deep insight into his mastery of the recording process and demonstrates the fact that he was as unparalleled a recording innovator as he was a guitarist. His brilliance shines through on every one of these precious tracks,” Janie told the Rolling Stones.

The title track of the album will be released as a single on Feb. 2.

A series of Hendrix’s releases
The Experience Hendrix Group is also reissuing the 1997 release “First Rays of the Rising Sun” on CD/DVD on the same date.

The ultimate guitar hero’s documentary “Beatles Anthology” will also be released the same day which features interviews with Hendrix Experience players Mitch Mitchell, Noel Redding, Cox, Kramer and original producer Chas Chandler.

Other releases planned include a reissue of “Smash Hits”, a DVD and Blu-ray release of “Live at Woodstock;” and a multi-disc box set.

“It is important that everyone understand that this is not the 'lost' album. It is the documentation of an important point in his career when the original JHE was making a follow up to 'Electric Ladyland' in 1969.

“Once Jimi started working with Billy Cox, he started making his creative transition and left this material on the shelf,” said John McDermott, Experience Hendrix archivist.

The Experience Hendrix Tour 2010
The tour, 'The Experience Hendrix Tour' is a biennial concert and pays homage to the music of Jimi Hendrix. This year’s tour kicks off from March 4 in Santa Barbara and ends in Atlanta on March 27.

The tour features Joe Satriani, Aerosmith's Brad Whitford, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Ernie Isley, Los Lobos and Living Colour.
