'Twilight' steals the show at People's Choice Awards 2010

Heartthrob Taylor Lautner got the award for best breakout actor for movie series Twilight’s latest film, “New Moon”

Los Angeles, CA, January 7 -- The winners for the 36th Annual People’s Choice Awards were announced Wednesday night with a bevy of popular stars claiming the trophies.

The 2010 awards, hosted by Queen Latifah, took place at the Nokia Theatre, Los Angeles. The awards were broadcast by CBS that showed trailers of “Robin Hood”, “Clash of the Titans” and “Avatar” before the event started.

The network also showed the cast for the 20th installment of the famous reality show “Survivor”.

Twilight steals the show in movie category
Movie series Twilight’s latest film, “New Moon” captured majority of the top awards; including favorite on-screen team, favorite movie, and favorite franchise. Heartthrob Taylor Lautner got the award for best breakout actor alongside “Hannah Montana” beauty Miley Cyrus.

Sandra Bullock continued her winning spree claiming the favorite movie actress award for her two blockbusters “The Proposal,” and “The Blind Side”.

“I've had two wonderful experiences this year, and I think most actresses will tell you if you had one in five years you'd be lucky,” she said.

Johnny Depp earned the favorite movie actor of the decade. He said, “The only reason any of us is up here is because of you. It has been quite an amazing decade and an incredible ride, and I sincerely thank all of you for bestowing on me all your great treasures.”

Hugh Jackman won the favorite action star for “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”

TV categories: Big Bang wins favorite comedy
On the TV side, Hugh Laurie won favorite male actor award for his drama show “House” while Katherine Heigl won the favorite drama actress trophy.

The “The Big Bang Theory” won the favorite comedy category while “Glee” won the favorite new TV comedy show.

Alyson Hannigan was awarded the best comedy actress for her work in “How I Met Your Mother”. Steve Carell bagged the best comedy actor for “The Office.”

Taylor Swift bags favorite female star
In music, Keith Urban and Taylor Swift were voted favorite male and female stars, while Carrie Underwood won the award for best country artist.

Lady Gaga was favorite breakout music artist and Mariah Carey won the favorite R&B star. Carey was accompanied by husband Nick Canon.

Ashton Kutcher won favorite web celeb award after which he immediately tweeted, “The people’s choice award really goes to you all! Thanks for the props! Thnk for making it happen!”
