Casey Johnson, seen here with father Woody Johnson, was known as the black sheep of the family
New York, January 6 -- New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is devastated by the sudden death of his daughter, Casey Johnson, friends and family members told The Post on Tuesday night.
Woody, whose brother Keith had died from overdose in 1975, had feared the same for Casey.
“Woody is a buttoned-up guy, he maintains a tough exterior, but he's devastated by this,” a family friend said.
Casey, Woody’s daughter, died in LA Monday. She had spent her last few months living in squalor. Casey was also a drug addict, who lived in a rented apartment with no water and electricity.
Johnsons too supportive for Casey
Her family always tried to help Casey, who was known as the black sheep of the family, in every way possible.
Her parents always wanted her to go back to the best rehab facility in the country. However, the young heiress refused to go back.
The heiress had a car to herself 24 hours a day.
“Woody wanted only the best for Casey, but he didn't approve of her antics,” said a friend close to the Johnsons.
Cause of death not known
Preliminary autopsy on Casey has shown no evidence of trauma, but investigators are waiting for the results of toxicological tests.
Chief Investigator Craig Harvey said they found insulin syringes in Casey's bedroom.
The cause of the death is yet to be announced, however, most believe it is due to drug addiction.
Friends of Casey say she was regularly popping large quantities of OxyContin, Klonopin and Adderall, as well as drugs such as marijuana, ecstasy and cocaine.
A private funeral is expected to be held later this week by the Johnson family.
Casey’s past
Casey, who recently got engaged to reality-TV star Tila Tequila, was also suffering from diabetes.
“She was very sick with diabetes and would often fail to take her insulin correctly, and was rushed to the hospital three or four times in the last six months,” a source close to Johnson told The Post.
Casey, 30, was involved in an episode with former girlfriend Courtenay Semel, where Semel allegedly set her hair on fire.
Her last tweet as on Dec. 29 said, “Sweet dreams everyone. I'm getting a new car.”
The heiress was also caught breaking into a friend's house and stealing thousands of dollars and jewelry.
