Kathy Griffin again uses profanities on CNN’s New Year coverage

Kathy Griffin again tossed the infamous F-word to the New Year Eve's audience at Times Square

New York, January 2 -- The New Year, for Kathy Griffin, probably is a new start to her old habits. Once again, she shot vulgarity towards the live audience watching her on CNN’s special broadcast for New Year’s Eve.

The comedienne tossed the infamous F-word to the crowd while making a joke with co-host Anderson Cooper about the pronunciation of the first name of the “balloon boy”.

Tongue failed at Falcon
The two were discussing the most unmerited entertainment stories of the year gone by, which included Colorado’s Richard Heene who had created a huge uproar in the media by building up a false story about his 6-year-old son, Falcon Heene, floating away in a home-made helium balloon.

"Fal ... Fu**ing? Falcon? How do you say it?" said Griffin, turning to co-host Anderson Cooper and leaving the audience taken aback for a moment.

Cooper, however, knows his muse Griffin and immediately responded to her. "You're terrible," he said jokingly. "Really terrible."

Network’s regret
CNN apologized to the viewers for the coarse language used on their broadcast. CNN “regrets that profanity was used during our New Year's Eve coverage,” said the network, in a statement released on Friday.

Going by the past, they knew Griffin could use inappropriate language but the network just decided to take the risk, their only comfort being a warning issued to Griffin for not using any badly chosen words while hosting the show.

The stand-up comedienne had attracted much criticism last year, when she flung curses at an audience member while hosting the New Year Eve’s show in Times Square. To everybody’s amazement, Griffin started shouting at a cynic in the crowd and later joked that he performed gay sex acts for a living.

Griffin: Just fumbled at Falcon
Realizing the hubbub about her conduct on the New Year Eve’s show, Griffin decided to come out with an explanation.

On Friday, she issued a statement via her publicist, which said, "Like every other serious reporter covering the now infamous balloon boy hoax, I struggled to pronounce his name 'Falcon' correctly and have gotten a kick out of how many ways I've heard it pronounced by other serious reporters. Just add me to that list and happy new year!"

The celebrations of a New Year have just begun, but there are already concerns about being served more profanities in the beginning of the next year. On being asked if, after two consecutive years of uttering poorly-chosen remarks to a live audience, Griffin will be called-on again for a third New Year’s Eve show, Shimrit Sheetrit, a spokeswoman for CNN said they haven’t yet started planning for 2011.
