Barnes and Noble to fulfill the Nook's Christmas commitment

Nook, now the major contender of Amazon's Kindle, has suffered major delays and other glitches in its delivery

New York, December 24 -- Barnes and Noble's e-book reader Nook, which has gained increasing popularity in the past few months, will now reach on time for Christmas to the people who pre-ordered it.

With the e-book market burgeoning at the rate that it is, for many, who had been assured by Barnes and Noble that it will reach them before Christmas, Nook was the perfect Christmas gift for their loved ones.

Wall Street Journal declared on Wednesday that Barnes and Noble will be able to fulfill the commitment, and everyone will get their Nook before Christmas.

Barnes and Noble's spokesman, Mary Ellen Keating, said in a statement that “We're pleased to tell our customers today that we are shipping out all our orders on time”.

Santa seems generous for Nook customers
The $100 certificates that Barnes and Noble had promised to its customers along with an apology due to the delay in the device's delivery might also materialize.

On last Friday, a retailer had intimated customers via e-mail that the device will reach them by Christmas Eve, and for the customers who would be left out, a $100 Barnes and Nobles certificate will be waiting.

While some who are fine with the idea of delayed gratification would be disappointed at losing out on the $100 certificate, others are just ecstatic at being able to gift their loved ones what they had planned.

The jinxed Nook
Nook, now the major contender of Amazon's Kindle, has suffered major delays and other glitches in its delivery.

People who had pre-ordered it initially were told that they will receive the device by November end, but that did not happen. The shipment got delayed till Dec. 11.

Barnes and Noble had initially aimed to deliver the product in retail shops for customers to feel and see before ordering it. It was their biggest advantage against Kindle. But the excitement about the new “Kindle killer” led to a demand that Barnes and Noble had not foreseen and could not fulfill.

On Nov. 20, they declared that their first shipment of Nooks had been sold out. It was not certain that Nook would reach people who had ordered it before Nov. 20 on time either. But the current announcement has led to many happy faces. One can safely say that Santa is generous to Nook readers this Christmas.
