Powell's father, Chuck Cox, said the information was conveyed to him by a family member who was with police at the time
West Valley City, Utah, December 14:The mystery surrounding a West Valley City woman’s sudden disappearance deepens. The woman, named Susan Powell, has been missing for a week but police still have few clues.
The twenty-eight-year-old mother of two Susan Powell was last seen Sunday night (Dec. 6) at her home in West Valley City and was reported missing by relatives the next day (Dec. 7).
Clues are few
Despite days of search, hours of interviews and thousands of missing-person fliers, investigators had little to go on Sunday in the search for the missing woman.
Detectives are now appealing for the public's help. They plan to conduct another interview early this week with Powell's husband Joshua Powell, who showed up at the home later on Monday with his two sons, ages 2 and 4.
Joshua told police he had taken his sons on a camping trip in the Simpson Springs area of Tooele County around midnight Dec. 6 in subfreezing temperatures.
"Lots of times I just go camping with my boys," Joshua told a local CBS News' affiliate last week. "Just overnight. We do s'mores and stuff."
He said that Susan didn't join them for the trip because she was feeling sick.
Wet spot found in the floor
Meanwhile, fresh reports emerged Monday claiming that police found a wet spot at Powell’s home last week, and that two fans were blowing on the spot.
Citing Powell's father, Chuck Cox, the reports say that police noticed the wet spot on the living room floor when they broke into Powell's house to see if the family had been poisoned by carbon monoxide.
"When they broke the window and got in the house, they found my daughter's purse and cell phone on the bed, a wet spot on the floor dried by two fans," said Cox. "And the family was gone."
Cox said the information was conveyed to him by a family member who was with police at the time.
He said the presence of the wet spot initially gave him hope the family may have simply rushed to the hospital after an accident.
"I don't think she's OK," said the worried father. "No one has heard from her."
Friends and family members plea for Susan’s safe return
Meanwhile, Susan's friends and family are making every possible effort in search for Susan. They went to malls and parking lots throughout the Salt Lake Valley to post and hand out missing person flyers.
Despite pleas from the family members and friends that have spread the news of her disappearance nationwide, there has been no word from Susan.
"She's been gone for an entire week. I don't believe there can be any, very much hope left," a tearful Kiirsi Helliwell, Sausan's best friend who created a Facebook page for her, told ABC News. "I'm trying to stay busy and not think about it. But I don't see how there's any way she can still be alive."
According to Damon Talbot, president of the nonprofit Destiny Search Project, many of Susan’s family members and friends in Utah were fasting, praying and resting Sunday.
