"I have no words," said Kaiane Aldorino, after being crowned Miss World
Johannesburg, December 13 -- Kaiane Aldorino from Gibraltar bagged the Miss World title in Johannesburg Saturday, defeating 111 other promising contestants.
Aldorino, dressed in a white evening gown, clapped her hands to her mouth when her name was announced.
"I have no words," she said. "I am really happy."
Most wonderful moment for Aldorino
Aldorino, 23, also won the swimsuit round and was a favorite among the judges. The beauty who made it to the top seven is an administrative clerk from the Iberian Peninsula.
The other six finalists included Miss Mexico, Perla Beltran, who won the first runner-up, Miss South Africa, Tatum Keshwar, who won the second runner-up, followed by Miss France, Miss Columbia, Miss Panama and Miss Canada.
Aldorino, who was bestowed a tiny crown of jeweled blue flowers said that she would do her best for the world as now she had every opportunity.
"Thank you South Africa, this is the most wonderful moment of my life," she said.
“As you can imagine, I am feeling extremely happy and I think that I need to sleep on this, to actually believe that it has happened to me. It is an amazing thing. I think that it will take a month to sink in.”
South Africa hosts Miss World final for the seventh time
A two-hour ceremony took place in Johannesburg featuring traditional South African drummers and dancers.
South Africa hosted its seventh Miss World final Saturday, spending approximately $12 million. The pageant, which was televised across the world, gave a taste of the country’s rich culture and heritage.
The crowd was shown clips of the finalists’ time in the country after which they got wild, calling out names of their favorite contestants.
Miss India, Pooja Chopra, a favorite among the crowd, got the title "beauty with a purpose” for her charity work.
“Charity work is integral to the Miss World ethos and part of the brief to contenders in each country is that they volunteer their time or fundraise for charity,” said pageant owner Julia Morley.
Next year’s pageant in Vietnam
Next year, the pageant will celebrate its 60th anniversary in Vietnam. Till now, the top holders for the Miss World title have been Venezuela and India, each winning five.
