Sales of XBox 360 break sales record in November

The yearend has turned out to be the most profitable in the history of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 gaming console.

According to Aaron Greenberg, the director of product management of Xbox 360 consoles, "November was the biggest month in the history of the Xbox 360 business."

Greenberg announced that out of the total sale of $1.4 billion in November, Xbox accounted for $838 million. This figure included the console as a whole, and separate accessories, plus games for 360.

Modern Warfare gets the credit
The rise in the sales of Micsoroft’s console can be partly attributed to the sales of “Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2”, which reached a staggering figure of 6 million after being sold on both the major gaming platforms, Sony’s Play Station 3 and Xbox 360.

Modern Warfare has been called the best selling game of November, selling about 4.2 million copies for the Xbox platform and 1.9 million copies for Sony’s Play Station 3.

Greenberg also brought to notice the fact that the Modern Warfare sales that have been declared do not comprise of the sales of the $400 limited-edition Xbox 360 bundle of 250 GB.

Though he refused to reveal the sales figures of the bundle, he did mention that they were so high that the company was planning to introduce similar deals with their other games.

Greenberg also mentioned that Xbox Live, the online gaming platform of Xbox where one can play with others in “multi-player” games, was the prime reason for Modern Warfare’s popularity on the 360 console.

Fall in U.S. gaming sales
The NPD group, also known as National Purchase Diary—North America’s biggest market research company--declared that the games sales in U.S. declined by 7.6 percent in the month of November.

The fall in the sales of games in the U.S was announced by Anita Frazier of NPD via a Twitter feed. According to the tweet, total sales of games, including that for PCs and consoles, reached $1.46 billion, a loss of 6.6 percent from last year.

The next best selling game turned out to be “New Super Mario Brothers” for Wii, which sold 1.4 million copies. The next were “Assassins Creed 2”, which was much awaited after its predecessor, and “Left 4 Dead 2”. Both the games on the Xbox platform sold 744,000 copies.
