Dressed in trademark red, Palin arrived at the mall just before noon and took the stage with husband Todd who carried their son, Trig
Los Angeles, December 8 -- Minnesota police on Monday arrested a man after he allegedly threw tomatoes at former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin that struck two police officers instead. The incident occurred during Palin's book tour at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota.
The 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, Palin, was at the mall signing copies of her book, "Going Rogue", when suddenly a man targeted her with two tomatoes while standing on the second floor balcony of the mall. However, the tomatoes didn’t hit her.
Tomato-attack at Palin
Officers say both messy missiles missed Palin, but one hit Bloomington Police Commander Mark Stehik.
It has been reported that bystanders on the balcony, from where the tomatoes were thrown, helped police apprehend the accused.
The officers identified the man as 33-year-old Jeremy Paul Olson from St. Paul, and booked him for suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct charges. Olson, who the officers think also goes by the name Jeremiah Wobbe, may also be charged with assaulting a cop.
Authorities found two more tomatoes with Olson at the time of his arrest.
Palin makes fans happy
Dressed in trademark red, Palin arrived at the mall just before noon and took the stage with husband Todd who carried their son, Trig.
She stayed there for four hours, signing copies of her book, "Going Rogue," for her more than 1000 die-hard fans who waited in a long line that started around 5 a.m. She spoke individually to the owners of the books she signed.
New York Daily News reports that Barnes & Noble didn’t reveal how many books were sold at the event, but according to the publisher, more than 700,000 copies were snapped up in the first week, outpacing President Barack Obama's 2006 book "The Audacity of Hope", which sold fewer than 100,000 copies in the first-week and Hilary Clinton's "Living History", which sold roughly 600,000 copies in 2003.
A bit on Palin’s memoir
Palin’s memoir “Going Rogue: An American Life" portrays her life. The title of the book “Going Rogue” is a reference to the phrase that was used during the 2008 presidential elections. “Has Sarah Palin 'gone rogue'?" was the lead of an article that appeared in magazine Slate.
In her memoir, Palin has talked about her life in Alaska, meeting her lifelong love, the role of faith in her life, her decision to enter politics, criticism by national media, and refutation of claims made by McCain staffers.
