Google puts Movie Search feature on smartphones

Google has brought its movies search service to Apple Inc.’s iPhone and all smartphones using Android and Palm's webOS.

The Internet giant’s new Google movie search for mobile feature provides information about the movie trailer, ratings, categories, movie poster, and also shows timing in different theaters, a list of nearest theaters and with support of Google maps service tells their distance.

The upgrade enables users armed with only a mobile phone to make a last minute getaway to the movies.

Available for the iPhone, Palm WebOS or Android-powered smartphones, the feature shows the movie search results in English on mobile devices in the United States, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

How to put movie search service on Phone?
To gain access to this latest mobile tweak, users have only to go to google.com and search for "movies" on their iPhone, Palm or Android-powered mobile devices, and then click on the "more movies" link, Nick Fey, a Google mobile team member, wrote on the Google Mobile Blog.

"We keep information on this page succinct so you can quickly browse through shows and show times to help you decide which movie to see," Fey, who is a user experience designer with Google's mobile team, wrote in the blog post.

After clicking on the "more movies" link, a list of the day's movies or the ability to select movies by "theaters" appears. A user can browse by location, which will provide them with a map displaying the closest theaters, with links showing movie times.

Smartphone users can also retrieve listings by searching for specific movies or theaters, which will provide detailed information about the movie timing, ratings and categories, movie posters, upcoming show times and a list of nearest movie theaters complete with distances.

The listings page also includes compact info and buttons to play trailers of the movie on the mobile device.

For a detail description users can select poster or movie title on their touch screens which displays new movie details page containing a synopsis of the movie, a more detailed list of show times, the cast and crew, and images.

"If you want more details about a specific movie, just touch the poster or movie title and you'll see our new movie details page that has a synopsis of the movie, a more detailed list of show times, the cast and crew and pictures," Fey wrote.

Explore movies by genre
Not only this, the new movie search feature also enables users to explore films by genre, according to Google’s Associate Product Manager Dan Stokeley.

"Sometimes, you might feel like seeing a sci-fi flick or a romance, but you're not sure what's out in theaters," Stokeley wrote on The Official Google Blog. "With genre filters you can start browsing right away and quickly find the right movie for you."
