Meanwhile, Jodi Seth, a spokeswoman for the Massachusetts Democrat, has released a statement saying Alexandra was released after a breathalyzer test found her within the legal limit for intoxication
Los Angeles, CA, November 20 -- U.S. Senator John Kerry's elder daughter, Alexandra, became the latest name in the growing list of celebrity DUI-busts after the police arrested her Thursday on suspicion of drunken driving.
Alexandra Forbes Kerry, an aspiring film producer and director, got pulled over and hauled off in Hollywood early Thursday on suspicion of DUI. She was stopped by cops, booked briefly on a misdemeanor charge of DUI, and was later released on bail, Los Angeles police said.
Kerry’s DUI-bust
Alexandra, the older of the senator's two daughters, was pulled over for a traffic violation at about 12:40 a.m., Sgt. Enrique Mendoza of the Los Angeles Police Department Hollywood Station told NY Daily News.
"She was arrested for driving under the influence," said Officer Sara Faden.
The 36-year-old was booked at the Hollywood police station and was held for about five hours, according to Officer Bruce Borihanh. She was released at about 5:30 a.m. after posting $5,000 bail.
Alexandra violated a traffic law
TMZ.com reported that Alexandra was stopped for a traffic violation and placed under arrest after failing a field sobriety test.
According to the celebrity news website, Alexandra initially refused to take a preliminary alcohol screening test at the scene, but a later blood-alcohol test conducted at the police station showed her to be just under the legal limit.
The test showed her blood alcohol level of 0.06, under the legal limit of 0.08 for intoxication, set by Californian law.
A driver can still be prosecuted on suspicion of drunken driving if officers believe the motorist is impaired.
"It depends on the expertise and opinions of the officers at the time," said police spokesman Gus Villanueva.
Father supports Kerry
Meanwhile, Jodi Seth, a spokeswoman for the Massachusetts Democrat, has released a statement saying Alexandra was released after a breathalyzer test fell under the legal limit for intoxication.
"Alexandra Kerry was pulled over for an expired registration and was released after the results of a Breathalyzer test at the police station were under the legal limit. Sen. Kerry supports his daughter and will have no further comment on a private matter,” the statement reads.
A court date is set for Dec. 10.
