Palin’s daughter Bristol has a child out of wedlock with the 19-year-old Wasilla resident Johnston. She gave birth to his son, Tripp, in December.
Bristol was a high school senior when she delivered her baby. She and Johnston, who posed in Playgirl this past week, split soon after the birth of their son.

Palin sat down with Walters for a five-part series of ABC News interviews, during which the show host Walters asks her about her public life as governor of Alaska and the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee. Walters also discusses with Palin her private life and presidential aspirations.
In a segment of a wide-ranging interview to begin airing on ABC's Good Morning America Tuesday, Palin tells Walters "I was shocked," after her teenager daughter told her about her pregnancy.
The 45-year-old former GOP vice-presidential contender, who is promoting her upcoming book "Going Rogue", tells Walters: "Truthfully, we were devastated."
Bristol’s pregnancy was publicly revealed just after Palin accepted John McCain's invitation to become the Republican vice presidential nominee. Bristol, now 18, was pregnant in September 2008.
In another segment of the interview, Willow Palin, 15, another Palin daughter, tells Walters that it "would be cool" if her mother became president.
Levi: Palin knew they were having sex
While Palin had expressed shock over her teenaged daughter’s pregnancy, at the time that the scandal was exposed to the world and when they lived under her roof, Johnston had claimed that her onetime mom-in-law-to-be was aware that her daughter was having sex with him.
Johnston and Bristol were high school sweethearts, who planned to wed after graduating but parted ways earlier this year. Bristol Palin became the hottest national topic last summer as she carried a baby in her womb at the age of 17. Their infant son, Tripp, was born on Dec. 27.
Portions of the wide-ranging interviews begin airing on "Good Morning America" Nov. 17, the morning her highly anticipated book, "Going Rogue: An American Life" is going to be released. The interviews will be shown at length Friday, Nov. 20, on "20/20".
