The 56-year-old Nash was brutally attacked on Feb. 16 by a 200-pound chimpanzee that left her blinded and her face horribly disfigured.
Chimp-mauled Nash reveals face
The chimp-mauled Nash, of Stamford, revealed her face to the world on Wednesday while appearing for an interview on "The Oprah Winfrey Show,” where she also shared the heartbreaking details of her life since the horrible attack.
Nash, who lost both her hands as well as her eyelids, lips and nose in the attack, told the show host that she's ready to heal and she's starting to get stronger to move forward.
Nash is being treated at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. She had nothing left in her face accept for her forehead. Doctors had to remove her eyes due to an infection.
Nash, who was in comma all these days, told Oprah she recently came to know that she'll no longer be able to see.
"Only . . . in the past couple of weeks did she realize that she no longer had eyes, because she had been saying that she was hoping to be able to see at some point," Oprah said, according to the New York Post.
Nash avoids touching her face
ABC News reports that Nash told Oprah during the interview that she feels no pain on her face but never touches it just to avoid knowing the full extent of her injuries.
"I don't ask a whole lot about my injuries... I know that I have my forehead," she said. She now drinks her meals "with a straw through a small hole where her mouth used to be," ABC quoted her as saying.
Also, The Associated Press reported that Nash has to eat everything out of a straw and can’t breathe through her nose.
Nash doesn't remember anything from the attack
According to a BBC News report, Nash claimed during the interview that she doesn’t remember a thing about the horrifying February attack, and that doctors keep her medicated in order to prevent the traumatizing memories, nightmares and flashbacks.
"I don't remember anything," Nash said of the attack, according to E! Online. "I told the doctor that I don't want to remember because I can't imagine what it was like. If I do start remembering, getting flashbacks, they have medicine to help me with that...I want to get healthy. I don't want to wake up with nightmares."
The brutal chimp attack
Nash was always a little afraid of the 200 lb. chimp Travis that belonged to her boss Sandra Herold. She was attacked by the wild animal after Herold enlisted her to help get him back into her house.
Travis attacked Nash when she was helping Herold lure the chimp back inside the house. The angered chimp brutally attacked her, ripping apart her face and arms before cops ended the rampage by shooting him. Herold had kept Travis as a pet since its infancy.
