New York, November 11 -- Everyone wants to associate themselves with Twitter, it seems. Recently Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp have signed separate search deals with the micro-blogging site, whereby the two companies will be integrating Twitter feed to their search engines. Now LinkedIn, the professional online networking site, has announced its association with Twitter.

In a joint statement Monday, the two companies announced a partnership that will let users post status updates on both networks.

The users will be able to sync LinkedIn status feature with Twitter. They will also be able to set Twitter status as LinkedIn status.

In a joint video with Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman stated, "It is the integration of the business side of the tweets and Twitter with the business ecosystem of LinkedIn that make the two work together."

Deal beneficial for both companies
The deal is beneficial for LinkedIn, which surpassed 50 million-member mark last month. Though it is growing and making money, the company has yet not adopted the latest trends of real time information.

On the other hand, Twitter has gained popularity and emerged as a remarkable source for real-time information. Striking a deal with Twitter is better than launching an initiative, asking members to update their status.

For Twitter, it is yet another way to stay in the limelight and become the world’s leading storehouse of real time information. With the floods of Tweets posted every day, Twitter has attained status of a new source to search for the latest news events and happenings.

Though the companies have yet not divulged all details, they are expected to roll out the new service over the next few days.

Users’ reactions
Online forums are teeming with users who are discussing the Twitter LinkedIn tie-up. Though majority of the users have welcomed the move, there are some who have voiced discontentment.

A user named westrajc posted his view on cnet news saying, “The synchronization of status updates between LinkedIn and Twitter could be positive for those who use both platforms. It will be interesting to see which service benefits the most from this arrangement.

“In theory LinkedIn will benefit from the greater volume of updates coming from Twitter, although getting the average person to remember use the #li hashtag may be a challenge.”

“As a regular LinkedIn user, I am not sure that I like the idea of the service jumping on the Twitter bandwagon and adding this type of integration.”

Another user named screwhead1000 commented on the same site, “this is a good move for linkedIn.........& for twitter...........twitter is making some serious moves and i find myself using it way more often than i do facebook.”

“I would hate to see LinkedIn move more toward an experience like Twitter or even Facebook where it is easy to get inundated with pretty inane status updates,” stated a user named Brian H on BusinessWeek.
