E! Online reports that Williams was charged with burglary and criminal trespassing following his arrest in Atlanta for allegedly breaking into a guesthouse with a crowbar and stealing roughly $3,555 in cash and collectable coins.
Williams caught stealing at a Newnan home
According to Maj. James Yarbrough of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Department, said an AP report, the break-in had occurred at a Newnan home, where a homeowner called the police to say Williams, above, “gained entry by breaking into the home, and items were taken from the residence.”
The local sheriff's office told E! that Daniel Broach, an employee at the Newnan estate where the comedian was staying, called police at around 9 p.m. on Sunday to report the break-in.
The comedian remained in an Atlanta jail Monday (Nov. 9) after his arrest on suspicion of breaking into that home in Newnan, about 40 miles southwest of Atlanta, The Associated Press reports.
Williams was released on a $41,150 bond Monday afternoon, according to the E! report citing an officer at Coweta County Jail.
Williams, whose real name is Micah Williams, characterized the situation as "a misunderstanding between me and two stupid detectives", as he was leaving the jail, the report says.
Burglary is fabricated
Meanwhile, the entertainer’s lawyer, William Briggs, has told TMZ that his client is innocent and the whole story is fabricated by one of producer Barry Hankerson’s employees who was involved in a dispute with the funnyman.
Briggs told the gossip Web site that Williams had been staying for three weeks with "full permission" on Hankerson's property while filming a movie.
TMZ has obtained a recording of a 911 call in which the caller can be heard saying Williams wouldn't let him leave and "threatened” to beat him up. The caller also said he wasn't sure if the comedian had a weapon.
Williams’ other brushes with the law
This is not the comedian’s first run in with the law. In 2006, Williams was sentenced to three years' probation for having a gun in his briefcase at Los Angeles International Airport.
In November 2008, he was arrested after New York police allegedly found three guns in his car. At the time, the cops pulled him over for driving a car without license plates and discovered guns in the car. The charges were ultimately dropped in July.
Later that month, Williams was hospitalized in South Carolina for a psychiatric evaluation after he was seen behaving suspiciously in Sumter, S.C. where his family home is.
Katt Williams--the multi-talented entertainer
Williams is known for his roles in the movies "Friday After Next", "First Sunday", "Money Mike", and "Norbit." His latest stand-up feature, Katt Williams: Pimpadelic, was a on top-10 DVD seller list last month.
He also did numerous skits and gave video appearances for artists like The Game, Ludacris, T.I., E-40, Outkast, Lil’ Kim, Lyfe Jennings, Cyrano Williams, Nick Cannon, DJ Drama, Lil' Scrappy, Lil Jon, and others.
