In a survey conducted by the America Online pop culture blog JSYK.com, U.S. teens and tweens named “Hanna Montana” star Cyrus as the worst celebrity influence of 2009.
Cyrus: The worst celebrity influence
A many as 44,594 online voters contributed to the blog’s first eponymous awards.
The Disney star Cyrus earned the maximum of the total votes tallied in the "Worst Celeb Influence" category of the AOL online blog survey.
Cyrus topped the list with 42 percent votes, thanks to her controversial acts in recent few months.
The 16-year-old songstress caused a major stir in June last year with her semi-nude Vanity Fair cover. In August this year, she came under fire for dancing with a stripper pole at the Teen Choice Awards.
What made her notorious?
Cyrus stirred a controversy earlier this year after a snapshot of her ran rampant on the internet showing the teen star and her friends pulling their eyes slanted in a gesture that seemed to mock Asians.
Her slant-eye pose attracted harsh criticism from media and an activist group, OCA, that accused the Disney star of making fun of the Asian Americans.
Others in the list
Cyrus topped the list, beating Britney Spears (27 percent) and VMA interrupter Kanye West (19 percent).
Caught in a nude photo scandal, Vanessa Hudgens of the ‘High School Musical’ fame garnered 9 percent of votes, and actor Shia LeBeouf's public intoxication scuffles got him 3 percent of the votes.
The young stars topping the "Best Celeb Influence" category of the survey are actresses Selena Gomez and Emma Watson, along with singers Nick Jonas, Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber.
Cyrus all set for her upcoming B’day
In related news, Cyrus appeared Friday on “On-Air with Ryan Seacrest” and told the host that her cameo in Sex and the City 2 was "the best job I've ever done . . . a total dream come true."
She also told Seacrest that she has already got her upcoming 17th birthday on Nov. 23 all planned out.
"I want to rent out a cool place and play all Dolly Parton music and have everyone dress up as their favorite Dolly moment," she told Seacrest. "I am really excited about getting all my crew members to dress up as Dolly. That's probably going to be the funniest thing ever."
