Rosie sat down with Howard Stern on Monday for a candid interview, during which she not only talked about her relationship troubles with the longtime partner Carpenter but also took aim at "Late Show" host David Letterman and discussed TV talk queen Oprah Winfrey and the gay rumors.
Rosie on her own personal life
On his Sirius XM show, Howard asked the former daytime queen about the recent reports of her break-up with longtime partner Kelli.
"We're working things out," Rosie said. "We're trying."
Rosie said she and Kelli are making some big decisions presently. "We have come to a point where we are seeing [if] what will make everyone happiest is maybe to not live together, but continue to parent," Rosie told Howard. "We have different styles of living. I'm very messy. She's very not."
"I thought you two we're going to make it," Howard's sidekick, Robin Quivers, said, to which Rosie’s response was: "I did too, honey."
During the interview, Rosie also indicated she and Kelli are at a crossroads. "I don't know that we're going to be together," she said. "I think we're working through what's best for all of us."
Rosie and Kelli, a former Nickelodeon marketing executive, married in San Francisco in 2004 but their marriage was nullified by the state. The two are loving parents to their four children- three adopted children, Parker, 14, Chelsea, 12, and Blake, 9 as well 6-year-old Vivienne, whom Kelli conceived through artificial insemination.
Missed romance with Jolie
Another revelation from Rosie came for Howard was that she had a phone fling with none other than international sex symbol Angelina Jolie.
"She… gave me her phone number and we talked on the phone two or three times, but that was that," Rosie revealed. "There was a tentative plan to have dinner that never came through. I was a little afraid of her. She's scary in a sexual kind of way."
On Oprah and gay rumors
When Howard asked Rosie why rumors pop up that Winfrey could be gay, Rosie responded: “I don’t know. I think she’s never been married and she’s exceptionally close to Gayle [King].”
“I don’t know that she and Gayle are necessarily doing each other but I think they are the emotional equivalent of … A gay couple,” she continued.
On Letterman
Rosie O’Donnell, who was promoting her own Sirius XM show, “Rosie Radio,” which stars next Monday, also weighed in on David Letterman’s admitted affairs with underlings.
"Having been the Rosie O’Donnell of The Rosie O’Donnell Show, it would be easy to do that to any intern at any time," she said. "And I think it’s a gross abuse of power."
