DeLay said he decided to quit the competition because doctors and show producers, keeping in mind his injuries, advised him to do so
Los Angeles, CA, October 7 -- Cycle 9 of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" continued on Tuesday (Oct. 6) with the dramatic ouster of not just one, but two of celebrity/pro pairs. Actress Debi Mazar and politician Tom DeLay have become the latest casualties.
This is the second time in DWTS' current season that the show has said goodbye to two celebrities. Before this, Ashley Hamilton and Macy Gray were cast out from the competition on debut night of the series.
Although this was another double elimination on Tuesday night, the reason for both celebrity contestants’ ouster was totally different. While Mazar was eliminated the traditional way: low scores and insufficient fan support, DeLay withdrew from the ABC dance-off, declaring he will no longer contend for this season's coveted Mirrorball trophy.
Debi Mazar eliminated
The “Entourage’ actress Debi Mazar and her professional dancing partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy scored the lowest overall points and became the fourth one to be out from the ninth season of the ABC dance-off.
The 45-year-old actress and her partner, who earned 17 points out of 30 for their performance, weren’t able to win judges’ hearts on Monday night.
Mazar said she struggled with the samba and missed a key step during the dance. Judges said her samba lacked sizzle, according to The Associated Press.
"It was neat and precise. But for me, it just didn't ignite," Judge Len Goodman said.
“Well, I definitely know a few more steps and I’ve had a great time,” Debi said after her ouster was announced. “I’ve loved every moment of it. I have great, you know, new friends, and Maks, I’ve loved my time with Maks.”
DeLay withdrew
Another contender to leave the show was DeLay who withdrew from the competition Tuesday after being diagnosed with stress fractures in both feet.
DeLay said he decided to quit the competition because doctors and show producers, keeping in mind his injuries, advised him to do so.
“You can’t practice, and if you can’t practice you’ll make a fool of yourself out here and I don’t want to do that to Cheryl because she’s so great,” Tom said when he announced on Tuesday’s show that he was leaving the competition.
DeLay and his partner Cheryl Burke, who also performed the samba on Monday's show, earned 15 points out of 30 for their performance.
Queen Latifah and hip-hop dance group Jabbawockeez were the guest performers on Tuesday's episode.
