Windows Vista has been called by some as one of the biggest epic fails of the era in the virtual world. Microsoft has once and for all decided to remove this blemish and brought forward Windows 7 to prove that they can still make operating systems.
Vista started off on the wrong foot with a terrible reputation right from the day it was introduced in 2007. This month, Windows 7 will formally replace Vista as Microsoft's new OS.
7 rising
Microsoft's strategy of giving away millions of copies of Windows 7 in beta seems to have worked. The web metrics firm Net Application is already displaying patterns of growth for windows 7, and a turn down for Vista. While the former increased its market share by 0.3 percent, the latter stumbled by losing 0.2 percent.
Vista had a horrible reputation for taking up too many resources, operating at a snail's pace, getting hung at momentary intervals, and other technical glitches. This turned the customers away in scores. Windows 7 has come as a fresh breath of air as it is already receiving good reviews from all over.
Windows 7 Home Premium that is being priced at $119 is a way of making people forgive the company’s past sins.
Google: Microsoft's nemesis
Microsoft and Google have been at each others’ throat for years now. With Google having a sound reputation of stepping into every market with quality products, and thus, taking over the rest, Microsoft is always biting its nails.
Most of Google’ Chrome OS's operations will be on the Internet. This makes sure that Chrome can have regular updates, and is forever evolving, apart from being lightening fast. Also, unlike Windows, Google's OS is free of cost.
Google is introducing their OS first on notebooks only, and depending on the response, they will develop it for a full-fledged desktop.
Microsoft learns its lessons
Microsoft has taken a leaf out of Google's book, who are known for a pleasant and friendly interface, and has made Windows 7 visually stimulating and user friendly.
One of the main features of Windows 7 is the speed with which it searches anything from a word to a document on the computer. This provision was excruciatingly slow on their older operating systems.
But these features regarding speed are nothing new to users who are used to Apple's Mac and Google desktop.
Another area Microsoft is keen to work on is the enhancements for the tablet computers that use touch screens. This is to throw Apple, who has been talking about its tablet computer for a long time, off the course.
