Motorola Cliq to hit the smartphone market soon

The Motoblur feature can help differentiate Cliq from the rest in the smartphone market.

San Francisco, September 11 -- The first Android smartphone by Motorola was finally launched at the Mobilize conference in San Francisco this Thursday. The new smartphone will be shipped in the fourth quarter with T-Mobile USA under the name Cliq.

The device will be launched with different names in different countries.

It will be called the Dext in other markets. Also, it will enter into the France and U.K. markets in the fourth quarter as Orange, as Telefónica in Spain and América Móvil in Latin America. However, the pricing for any of the markets was not disclosed.

USP of the phone: Motoblur
The major attraction in the latest touchscreen phone is that it will be loaded with a novel Internet-based service called Blur, short form for Motoblur. This unique feature will help to put together information from all the contacts in the user’s list from many social-networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.

Sanjay Jha, co-CEO of Motorola and CEO of the company’s Mobile Devices group, elaborated that all those who use Blur will have the luxury of combining all their contacts from all these social networking platforms into one contact list, arrange their own groups and separate contacts by social network.

The service can provide the user with a quick summary of his e-mail, text and social-networking messages. The user can reply back at the same time. Not only this, it will also help him keep his social networking account updated.

Other attractive features of the phone
The device will have a slide-out QWERTY keyboard as well as a touchscreen. It will be equipped with Wi-Fi along with 3G (third-generation) connectivity and will have a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Apart from these features, there will be a 5-megapixel camera that can shoot videos at an amazing 24 frames per second.

If your phone gets lost or is stolen, you do not have to worry because all the information stored in it can be cleaned up remotely. However, all the data will be saved in a cloud infrastructure and can be retrieved back in the set by logging in with the same username and password that was used previously.

Many more interesting features adorn the new Motorola Cliq. There are innumerable functionalities like a 320-by-480-pixel display, GPS (Global Positioning System), Google Maps with Street View, and a 2GB MicroSD card with support for cards as huge as 32GB.

Motorola revealed that the smartphone will have a talk time of six hours, coupled with 325 hours of standby time. The standard headphone jack will allow the users to plug in their own headsets.

Cole Brodman, Senior Vice President and chief technology and innovation officer at T-Mobile USA, said that all the applications accessible on the Android Market will work on the Cliq too.

Motorola trying to create its own space in smartphone arena
Motorola is going to come up with a new Android handset that will be shipped by the year-end, when the holiday season starts, Jha said. Starting next year, the company is planning to launch more devices that can integrate the Blur service, he added.

Jha was quoted as saying, “I see smartphones as the future of consumer and prosumer computing. If it doesn’t fit in your pocket, I don’t think it’s going to be a relevant device from a consumer and prosumer point of view.”

Motorola is desperately trying to carve a niche for itself in the soaring competitive handset market. It is being hoped that Motoblur will help the company achieve this.
