The Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigh revealed in a talk session with Ellen DeGeneres that she and her singer-songwriter hubby Josh Kelley had always wanted to adopt a child
Los Angeles, September 11 -- Katherine Heigl and her husband Josh Kelley are adopting a Korean baby this week, becoming the latest celebrity after Madonna and Angelina Jolie to adopt a child from another country.
Several tabloid reports have popped up claiming that Heigl and her musician hubby Josh Kelley are about to become first-time parents.
Sources told RadarOnline Web site that The Ugly Truth star and her husband of almost 2 years will be welcoming a girl, named Naleigh, from Korea into their family. The report claims the baby's nickname will be Leigh.
“She is thrilled,” RadarOnline.com quoted a source close to the situation as saying. “She and Josh are so happy.”
The two have been working on adopting a baby Naleigh, who is around 10-months-old, for at least six months, the dailymail.co.uk reports.
According to theinsider.com, Heigl announced their adoption plans on an episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that will air on Friday, Sept. 11.
Heigl, who plays Dr. Izzie Stevens on ABC's "Grey's Anatomy", tells the talk show host Ellen in the interview that she and hubby haven't met the baby yet and that they will bring home the Korean baby "really very soon".
The actress of the hit pregnancy comedy “Knocked Up” explains: "They told us that it was a little girl and who she was and the information about six months ago. It was meant to take a long time. This sort of thing can take years.
“Her name is Naleigh. Well, I am naming her after my mother and sister Nancy, Leigh. So we call her Naleigh….She has special needs. She is a baby special needs baby and because of that it all moved so much faster. They wanted to get her to us as quickly as possible."
Adoption- Heigl’s long-time desire
Heigl also revealed that she and Kelley had always wanted to adopt a child.
"We started talking about adoption even before we were engaged because it's really important to me… I just wanted to make sure that I was marrying a guy who understands that this was going to have to happen," she said.
“I wanted to tell everybody so you don't think I stole a Korean baby,” she joked at the end of the interview.
The actress and scruffy singer/songwriter Josh Kelley have been married since 2007. The pair met when Heigl appeared in Kelley's 2005 music video for the song "Only You".
