Los Angeles, September 2 -- Authorities are considering the possibility that DJ AM’s death was the result of an overdose of the powerful painkiller OxyContin, according to a report from People.com.
DJ AM, real name Adam Goldstein, swallowed a fatal dose of the painkiller OxyContin, which indicates that the spinner took his own life.
Celebrity beatmaker and club owner DJ AM was found dead at 36 years of age on Friday (Aug. 28, 2009) in his New York City apartment. Since the tragic death of the deejay, authorities in the case were trying to find out whether he died from an accidental drug overdose, or committed suicide.
DeeJay swallowed fatal dose of OxyContin
Authorities investigating DJ AM's death have confirmed to People magazine they have found undigested OxyContin pills in his stomach.
A law-enforcement source has told the magazine that the nightclub star had eight undigested OxyContin pills in his stomach when he died, and the ninth pill was in his mouth when his body was discovered.
The source told People that DJ AM swallowed the powerful painkillers quickly. "He wanted to die," the source said. "He was going unconscious when he took the last one. He didn't even swallow it."
It’s claimed DJ AM was found lying on top of a bag of crack cocaine. Cops also found a Valentine's Day card from his former girlfriend, fashion model Haley Wood. It is reported that the card was lying on a coffee table in the living room of deejay’s $2 million apartment on Lafayette St.
According to People’s source, the message inside the card read: "Thank God you're in my life. I love you."
The source also told the magazine that a mirror was propped up against the bedroom door from the inside and, when authorities entered the room, the mirror fell over and shattered.
DeeJay smoked a lot of Crack
A crack pipe was next to him and the class A drug was found under his body, suggesting he "smoked a lot of crack, barricaded the doors and killed himself", the source told the magazine.
Meanwhile, DJ AM’s ex Hayley Wood has shot down speculation that their breakup prompted the deejay to take his own life.
"Any indication that this horribly tragic accident happened because of a rumored breakup is not only untrue but disgusting," Wood said in a statement to Us Weekly. "We were very much together at the time of his passing, and I love him very much."
