Brown was ordered not to contact Rihanna for the next five years. He is abiding by a protection order that mandates him to stay 100 yards away from Rihanna and not to threaten her in any way, until Aug. 25, 2014, when his probation period is over
Los Angeles, August 26: R&B singer Chris Brown yesterday got bitter reward for his misdeed when a Los Angeles judge sentenced him to five years' probation and six months' community labor.
In addition to that, the singer was ordered to stay away from his former girlfriend for the next five years.
Brown, who dated Rihanna for a year until the assault incident in February, was arrested on Feb. 8 in Los Angeles on suspicion of making criminal threats against a woman, believed to be Rihanna, after a late-night dispute. In the violent incident that occurred on the night of the Grammy Awards, the 20-year-old singer had attacked his fellow R&B singer Rihanna.
Brown was charged with the two felony counts- assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, and making criminal threats- in connection with the alleged altercation with his then-girlfriend Rihanna. He pleaded guilty to felony assault in June.
Chris Brown’s final Verdict
Brown was formally sentenced on Tuesday (Aug. 25) for his February assault of his ex-love Rihanna, who did not attend yesterday’s sentencing.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg sentenced Brown yesterday to five years probation and ordered him to must complete a 52-week domestic violence prevention programme.
He was also ordered not to contact Rihanna for the next five years. Brown is abiding by a protection order that mandates him to stay 100 yards away from Rihanna and not to threaten her in any way, until Aug. 25, 2014, when his probation period is over.
According to the protective order and the conditions, Brown should stay 10 yards away from Rihanna during music-industry events they both attend.
The singer will be required to report to a probation officer in Los Angeles and to check in with the Los Angeles judge that sentenced him from time to time.
Judge Schnegg said she was aware of reports that Brown and Rihanna had been spotted together on several occasions in the same places.
"I am not amused with the chatter that has been on the airwaves and any violation of your probation in this case comes with the potential for state prison," Schnegg told Brown.
Brown to serve his sentence in his home state
Brown will complete his community labor and the counseling programme in his home state Virginia. His community labor will be overseen by the police chief in Richmond.
The singer apologized to fans in a video released and said he has apologized to Rihanna for his behavior. He also promised to learn from his mistakes.
Brown is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 19 for a progress report.
