At a Sunday night news conference, police officials said they were disappointed that Jenkins would not face the first-degree murder charge they had sought
Los Angeles, August 24: Former reality television contestant Ryan Jenkins has been found dead in Canada on Sunday, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said. Jenkins was accused of killing his former wife.
Jenkins, the VH1 reality-show competitor, was identified last week as the primary suspect in the killing of his wife, swimsuit model Jasmine Fiore, in California. Her mutilated body was found dumped in a Buena Park trash bin in Orange County, Calif., on Aug 15.
Death of fugitive murder suspect
The 32-year-old native of Canada was found hanging from a belt in a room at the Thunderbird Motel in British Columbia. The preliminary evidence indicates he committed suicide, Canadian authorities announced Sunday.
Jenkins was found dead by a hotel manager who decided to check on the room rented three days earlier. “Preliminary evidence suggests that he took his own life,” said Sgt. Duncan Pound of the Mounted Police.
The Thunderbird Motel manager Kevin Walker who discovered the body of fugitive murder suspect and reality TV contestant Ryan Jenkins said that a young woman checked him in on Thursday. The woman stayed for about 20 minutes there, then left. Her vehicle was never seen again, Walker said.
According to Walker, the mystery woman paid cash for three days, and when the two didn't check out, he unlocked the room with a second motel key and found Jenkins “hanging from the coat rack by a belt”.
“As I was pushing the door open, I smelled death,” Walker said. “And then, as I kept opening the door, there was death staring at me.”
Mr. Jenkins was formally charged in his wife’s murder on Friday. Authorities in his native country of Canada began sprawling chase last week after his boat had been found Wednesday in a marina across the border from Vancouver.
At a Sunday night news conference, police officials said they were disappointed that Jenkins would not face the first-degree murder charge they had sought.
"The sadness of this all is that Mr. Jenkins will not stand before an Orange County jury for his crimes," said Buena Park Police Lt. Steve Holliday.
Jenkins – The Brutal murderer
Jenkins shot to fame after appearing in the television show "Megan Wants A Millionaire" on VH1. Airing of the program has been suspended by VH1 after he was indicted for the murder of his model wife. He also appeared in another show “I Love Money 3,” airing of which was also canceled.
Jenkins and 28-year-old swimsuit model Fiore were married in Las Vegas in March. Their marriage was annulled but the duo had recently reunited after separating.
According to news reports, the two were together shortly before Fiore’s body was found in a suitcase stuffed into a trash bin. According to police report, her teeth and fingers had been removed to make it harder to identify her body. But, the investigators identified her by using the serial number on her breast implants.
