A still from the online game "World of Warcraft" to be directed by Sam Raimi
Los Angeles, July 22: Sam Raimi, admired for directing the “Spiderman” series, has agreed to direct a mega budget movie, which will be an adaptation of the popular online fantasy game “World of Warcraft”.
The movie will be a franchise project of the Legendary Pictures and the Warner Brothers. It will focus more on the growing tensions between the races of the World of Warcraft universe than merely being the tale of a journey.
Homing in on Raimi
Blizzard Entertainment introduced “World of Warcraft” in 1994 and began working with the Legendary Pictures three years ago to create a movie version of this game since it is the most heavily played game online.
But nothing could work out at that time.
A lot many directors had been approached to take up the project but much famed Raimi was found to be the best choice. After producing the “Hercules” and “Xena” series, he's produced “Legend Of The Seeker”, currently showing in theatres.
Production dates not certain
As of now, it is not clear when the production of “Warcraft” will begin as Raimi is currently working on “Spider man 4”, expected to release in May 2011.
Meanwhile, it is expected that he will supervise the development of “Warcraft” while working for the Spiderman series.
The film will be produced by Charles Roven, and Warner Brothers will co-finance the project, besides helping in the distribution process.
