Heigl, Butler disclose the ugly truth

"The Ugly Truth" stars Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler

Los Angeles, July 21: Katherine Heigl, lead actress of “The Ugly Truth”, says that in real life too, an ugly truth prevails in a relationship between a man and a woman.

In this movie, Heigl is playing the role of a romantically challenged morning show producer, Abby Richter, who is seeking her Mr. Perfect but is still hopelessly single.

And when Mike Chadway (Gerard Butler), the show's new in-your-face reporter, comes in, the story takes an interesting turn as he is the one who knows the ugly truth about men and women.

Heigl's confessions
Married to singer Josh Kelley, Heigl admits that when she was single she had chalked out a list of what she wanted in a man, like Abby, her character in "The Ugly Truth", does.

"I definitely went the whole make-a-list [process]," she says. "I'm definitely a little OCD; I'm particular about how I like things, and how I want things."

"You don't have to necessarily completely change who you are to be with someone you want to be with, but you do have to compromise a little bit. You have to let go of a little bit of yourself," she adds.

It seems like she has accepted the differences between the psyches of a man and a woman.

Butler's views
On the other hand, Mike (Gerard Butler), who plays Katherine’s love interest in the flick, says that men are far simpler than what women think.

"And we're way more carnal than women would like to believe. We want arousal, we want to have fun. This is me as Mike, my character speaking by the way," says the witty Butler.

"No, the idea is that we're looking for two different things. And men and women, we need to find a way to meet in the middle," he adds.

The romantic comedy “The Ugly Truth” will be opening on July 24.
