Janet Jackson calls it quits with Jermaine Dupri

Janet is currently grieving the death of her brother Michael, who had died last month following sudden cardiac arrest. The King of Pop was found unconscious and not breathing on June 25 in his $100,000-a-month rented mansion in Holmby Hills. The singer died later that day at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles following cardiac arrest, aged 50.

Janet Dupri go their separate ways

Tragedies sometimes bring people closer together, but this seemingly does not apply on the 43-year-old Janet who has ended her seven years relationship with her 36-year-old music executive boyfriend Dupri less than a month after the tragic death of her big brother.

The speculation of the couple’s possible break-up popped up early this month when Dupri was nowhere to be seen in Michael’s memorial on July 7. Now a report from Us Weekly claims that the 'All For You' singer and Dupri have split up.

“His friends are telling people it’s over,” according to an Us Weekly source.

Another source told the magazine the duo had steadily been growing apart in recent couple of months. “They have been moving in different directions for a while,” the source said.

What contributed to the couple’s break up

Dupri, who did not attend Michael’s memorial, produced several of Janet’s recent tracks on her last two albums, '20 Y.O.', released in 2006, and 2008's 'Discipline,' neither of which did good business. This could have contributed to the couple’s break up, some of their close friends assert.

“You shouldn’t mix business with pleasure,” a friend of the former couple told the Us. “Janet felt their lives were too crossed and they should have kept things separate.”

It has also been reported that Janet felt suffocated by Dupri’s extrovert behavior. "Jermaine likes to be out there, mingling with everybody, and Janet's more shy," a source told the mag.

Janet still mourning

In addition to her break-up, Janet is still devastated by the sudden passing of her brother Michael. “She’s devastated,” another insider said. "Janet's the family backbone. She's busy caring for the kids, while trying to cope with her own loss. As everyone knows she and Michael were very close."

Janet was previously married to actor/director Rene Elizondo. They divorced in 2000 after nine years of marriage.
