The 71-year-old Oscar-winning director, who was once considered one of the sexiest men alive, and 51-year-old Szaggars, who is high-profiled abstract painter, have been dating since 1996.
Wedding bells for Redford and Szaggars
After 12-years of dating, the couple tied the knot this past weekend in a small and intimate ceremony in Hamburg, Germany. The ceremony took place on Saturday evening at the luxury Louis C. Jacob Hotel in Hamburg, and officiated by Pastor Frank Engelbrecht of Hamburg's St. Catherine Church.
Redford and Szaggars exchanged the vows in front of the 30 guests, including family and friends. Pastor Engelbrecht told People that the couple "wanted a very intimate ceremony".
"The ceremony was very important to them," he told Telegraph adding that the ceremony was conducted in the local language.
According to a local tabloid’s report, the bride wore a champagne-colored dress and Redford donned a white suit.
Second marriage for Redford
This is the second marriage for Redford, while Szaggars, who is 20 years his junior, walked down the aisle for the first time. Redford was previously married to Lola Van Wagenen from 1958 until their divorce in 1985. Together they have three children.
The buzz is that after Saturday’s nuptials, the happy couple is now planning to hold an "official" wedding party in Mexico in September.
Meanwhile, tabloids are fighting to get their hands on the couple’s wedding pictures. The word is that Newspaper Bild has offered up to $14,000 to post a photo of the newlyweds on the front page of their paper.
About the couple
Redford and Szaggars, who first met at the Sundance Film Festival, founded by Redford, in the early 90s, got engaged in March of last year. "'We are engaged and very happy with that. She [Sibylle] is my fiancée and that says everything, doesn’t it?" Redford told the German magazine Bunte at the time.
Redford won an Oscar in 1980 for his film “Ordinary People” and is most famous for founding the non-profit arts organization Sundance Institute and launching the Sundance Festival that has become the premiere event for the U.S. independent film makers.
Throughout past decades, Redford has also starred in more than 40 films including "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and "The Sting."
