Helsinki, July 5Sony Ericsson’s (NYSE: SNE) first foray into the Android business is a completely redesigned Xperia phone apparently code-named “Rachel” which was pictured over at Engadget.

Although until now there are no official facts of the smart-phone available, rumors of the handset can be found on several Internet news portals.

Features of “Rachel”
According to the information obtained by the Danish Mobil magazine, the phone will be part of Sony Ericsson's series of XPERIA products. As per the internal documents describing the upcoming phone, it seems to have the potential of a sales success.

The details though sparse have started trickling about Sony Ericsson’s first Android offering. If rumors are to believed “Rachel” has an extremely thin profile and sleek full touch screen which seems quite large. However, as yet there are no specifications about its size.

According to leaked pictures the handset bears the Xperia brand and will feature a built in 8- megapixel camera with auto-focus. There’s also a 3.5mm audio jack connector as well as a mini-USB connector at the top of the phone.

Sources say that “Rachel” would be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform (QSD8250), which would enable the phone processor a speed of up to 1GHz and HSPA downlink speed up to 7.2 Mbps. This platform will also sport great 3D graphics capabilities.

The Sony Ericsson model includes a few buttons on the front that are uncommon for an Android phone. The current HTC Android phones have a home button, back button, pick up and end call buttons.

The Sony Ericsson’s “Rachel” will probably run on the upcoming 2.0 version of Google Android operating system, which is also expected to be released towards the end of this year. However, it is still vague whether the phone will feature the Adobe Flash capability.

There were no clues available as to the release date, but Sony Ericsson is unofficially expected to have its first Android phone ready by late 2009 at the earliest.
