Hilton, the proprietor of perezhilton.com, has filed a civil lawsuit Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court against the Black Eyed Peas’ tour manager Polo Molina, claiming the manager punched him in the face on June 21 at a MuchMusic Video Awards afterparty in Toronto.
"All persons responsible for this cowardly act of physical violence will be sued and held legally responsible for their actions," Hilton's attorney, Bryan J. Freedman, said in a statement. "His First Amendment rights will not be infringed upon through fear, intimidation or violence."
In his complaint filed by the blogger under his legal name of Mario Lavandeira, the openly gay blogger alleges he was beaten up by Molina following a dispute with the frontman of The Black Eyed Peas, Will.I.Am, and fellow artist Fergie over the criticism of the Peas' latest album “The E.N.D.”.
Hilton claims that Molina was upset about the negative comments he made about the band's newest album, which debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. pop chart last week.
"Perez will take legal action against anyone who chooses to resort to physical violence as a means to respond to criticism they do not like," the statement continued.
Hilton seeks damages
In his lawsuit, Hilton accuses the 36-year-old Molina of battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He also claims his civil rights were violated by Molina's actions. Hilton is seeking unspecified general and punitive damages and compensation for medical expenses.
Molina has already been charged with one count of assault by Toronto police. He is due to appear in court on Aug. 5.
Perez Hilton, an American celebrity blogger and television personality, was punched on Sunday night, after making an appearance at Canada's MuchMusic Video Awards. Immediately after the feud, Hilton sent out a series of urgent messages on the social-networking site Twitter detailing the incidence.
