The grapevine had it that the stars of the reality television show "Jon & Kate Plus Eight" are splitting, but there was no confirmation from either side.
Jon-Kate divorcing
Now, Jon and Kate have confirmed that they are heading for splitsville after 10 years of marriage. The pair made this official Monday night (June 22) that they are divorcing, in separate interviews.
"Kate and I have decided to separate," Jon Gosselin said. "I was too passive," he said of their relationship. "I just . . . went along with everything. Now I finally stood up on my own two feet and I'm proud of myself. I don't hate Kate."
"It's very uncomfortable at this point because Jon has a lot of anger towards me and I would love to discuss it with him but he won't talk to me," Kate said. "I don't hate him, never have, never will," she added.
Alternate time with kids
Jon and Kate, the parents of eight children- 8-year-old twins and 5-year-old sextuplets, both said that the children would continue living in the house in Wernersville, Pennsylvania, where the show is filmed. The children will live with each parent staying there during their time.
"It's going to change a lot because there will be time that I will have to be away from them," Kate said.
The couple also said the reality show will go on, but they would conduct separate on-air interviews and be filmed with the children in an arrangement that will keep both of them in the children's lives but at the different times.
“I'm still in the show, but we'll interview separately,” Jon said.
"How does the show go on? The show must go on," Kate said. "We can't go back now. We can only go forward."
“Jon & Kate”
"Jon & Kate" is TLC's most-watched series, drawing 9.8 million viewers for its Season 5 that started May 25. But the couple has been the focus of numerous media rumors in recent months, ranging from allegations of infidelity by both Jon and Kate to possible end of marriage.
Since originally airing in April 2007, "Jon & Kate" has spent episodes focused on the couple's life as they raise a pair of fraternal twins and sextuplets.
The show has become media fodder since March, when Season 4 ended amid reports that Jon was having an affair with a 23-year-old teacher. In April, the reality TV star was photographed partying late night with his female friend. Kate was also rumored to have been involved with her bodyguard.
Since the pop-up of such rumors, the focus of the camera has turned more on the turbulent marriage of the couple rather than their life as they raise a pair of fraternal twins and sextuplets.
For sure because of that,
For sure because of that, the children will be having tough times accepting that their parents are divorcing or living separately. There will be many changes that will happen in their lives. Kate Gosselin just appeared on the Today Show, hawking the program that features her, her ex-husband Jon, and their children. Kate Gosselin went on to say that the marriage was doomed, and would have failed anyway, cameras rolling or no. (Rip van Winkle was so henpecked he took a 20 year nap. Just saying.) At any rate, the ratings of the show have fallen off since they resumed filming, and Kate has insisted that she isn't exploiting her children – even though her plugs could increase ratings and therefore revenue of the show…that stars her children. Many people still insist Kate Gosselin is genuine, and isn't after quick cash by parading her offspring on camera.
