One more generous donation from Brangelina

Pitt and Jolie made this generous donation through the Jolie-Pitt Foundation to assist Pakistani refugees displaced by the conflict between the Pakistani military and Taliban militants

Los Angeles, June 19: U.S. actress and humanitarian aid worker Angelina Jolie and her long-time partner Brad Pitt donated $1 million on Thursday to the United Nations Refugee Agency, UN High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR), to help displaced people in Pakistan, according to several tabloid reports.

Hollywood's hottest couple, known in the media as "Brangelina", made this generous donation through the Jolie-Pitt Foundation to assist Pakistani refugees displaced by conflict between the Pakistani military and Taliban militants.

More than 2 million people in Pakistan have been uprooted this year as a result of the fighting between the Pakistani military and the Taliban since April in the northwest part of the country, the agency said.

According to People.com, UNHCR chief, Antonio Guterres, thanked the Hollywood power couple for their generous donation and said: “The situation in Pakistan is the most challenging humanitarian crisis of the past decade."

Jolie, the star of 2008 movies "Changeling" and "Wanted", has worked as UNHCR (UN High Commissioner for Refugees) goodwill ambassador for eight years and visited Pakistan three times to witness United Nations relief operations in that period.

Speaking at a World Refugee Day event in Washington D.C., Jolie said, "The refugees I have met and spent time with have profoundly changed my life. Today, I want to thank them for letting me into their lives."

"I believe we must persuade the world that refugees must not be simply viewed as a burden," she added. "They are the survivors. And they can bring those qualities to the service of their communities and the countries that shelter them."

Teaching kids humanity
The 34-year-old powerhouse actress who is raising six children with partner Brad Pitt said Thursday that she is making her kids aware of world’s situation, telling them that not everyone is as fortunate and lucky as they are.

"I usually just explain to [my kids] that there are other families in the world that aren't as fortunate as ours and other kids'...And so I tell them that it's important for all of us to do what we can and then go to these places and understand what's happening," she said.

"Hopefully I'll take them to as many countries as I can and raise them with an education of the world."

Brangelina’s past donations
The donation to the United Nations Refugee Agency UNHCR is the latest in the series of the huge sums given by the celebrity couple for the noble causes in recent years.

Just last week, the Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt and family donated $1 million to St. John's hospital in his hometown of Springfield, Missouri, helping to establish an endowment fund for pediatric cancer specialists at the medical facility.

Known for their passion for making generous donations to charities, helping children in need, the supercouple in September donated $2 million through the Jolie-Pitt foundation to help children in Ethiopia stricken by disease.

In June 2008, the foundation, which has raised millions of dollars for charitable causes, reportedly donated $1 million to the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which Jolie co-chairs.
