Although Lohan’s involvement in the apparent jewelry heist has not yet been confirmed by the police, but the observers say probability of her link to the alleged theft is there
Los Angeles, June 17: The troubled Hollywood singer-actress is once again the center of attention in yet another scandal; this time because of the theft of jewelery she wore in a fashion shoot.
A pair of diamond earrings and necklace worth $512,137 worn by the 22-year-old songtress for the shoot for Elle magazine at London’s Big Sky studio went missing, according to media reports.
"Officers from Westminster police are investigating an allegation of theft of jewelry from studios in Brewery Road, Islington," the police said in a statement, according to Reuters.
"The theft was reported to a central London police station on 8 June 2009 after earrings and a necklace, believed to be diamond and estimated to be worth in the region of 250,000 pounds, were found to be missing approximately two days earlier," the statement added.
A police spokesperson said that inquiries are under way, and there have been no arrests at this stage. "We will be speaking to a number of people in connection with the allegations." According to reports, there were some 20 people at the photo shoot.
British cops are investigating the theft and are also planning to quiz Lohan over the theft of gems because she was the last one seen wearing them.
Meanwhile, Lohan's spokeswoman Leslie Sloan-Zelnik said Tuesday no one from Scotland Yard had contacted the actress regarding the mysterious disappearance of gems, but said she would comply in an investigation if necessary.
Jewelry owner Dior upset over theft
According to reports, the jewelry was loaned by fashion house Dior for the 'Mean Girls' actress’ photoshoot for Elle magazine on June 6 in Islington, North London.
"Jewellery is often loaned out for big celebrities to wear on fashion shoots. Police are working out who had them when they went missing. People at Dior are very upset. It's an embarrassment to the magazine," said a source
Elle magazine staff reportedly noticed the jewelry was missing and reported the theft to police on June 8.
Lohan’s possible involvement
Although Lohan’s involvement in the apparent jewelry heist has not yet been confirmed by the police, the observers say probability of her link to the alleged theft is there because this isn't the first time the young starlet has been at the center of such infamous accusations.
In April of 2007, Lohan was accused of taking more than $10,000 worth of clothes and jewelry from model Lauren Hastings and in August of that same year she was accused of stealing samples from another fashion house Louis Vuitton during a photo shoot for Elle magazine.
Even during the latest Elle magazine photoshoot, a source told MTV that Lohan was "going on about the jewels asking if she could have them. We all thought she was joking."
