Sarah Palin condemns Letterman for "sexually perverted" comments

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her husband Todd went on the offensive against the 62-year-old David Letterman as the television host and comedian passed lewd comments on one of Palin’s teenage daughters

New York, June 11: Sarah Palin has lambasted comedian David Letterman for passing "sexually perverted” comments about her and her teenage daughter on "The Late Show".

The 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, and her husband Todd, while rebuffing satirist Letterman’s moves, put out scathing statements directed at him.

The CBS humorist, had, in his monologue Tuesday night, referred to Palin, Alaska's governor, as having the approach of a "slutty flight attendant".

He also, while poking fun, remarked that “during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez" when the mother daughter duo attended a Yankees game during a trip to New York City.

Palin’s camp terms comments disgusting and despicable
"Laughter incited by sexually perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is ... disgusting," an incensed Palin said in a statement.

"Acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone's daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others," she said.

Todd Palin also condemned Letterman and said "any 'jokes' about raping my 14-year-old are despicable."

Palin's supporters also criticized and denounced the CBS host for cracking jokes they termed were sexist. They claimed that it was an unfair and unwarranted harassment for the governor and her family.

Washington Examiner correspondent Byron York supported Palin’s claim, "I think that calling the former vice presidential candidate a slut or saying that her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez, I think everyone can agree that’s over the line."

Letterman defends
In an apparent volte face, Letterman, on his show Wednesday night, maintained that he was referring to 18-year-old Bristol Palin and not to Palin’s 14-year-old daughter, Willow Palin.

He admitted that he was guilty of poor taste, but denied having used indecent language for an underage girl.

Letterman said, "These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl."

The unwed 18-year-old Bristol, to whom these jokes were directed at, as claimed by Letterman, has given birth to a son recently.

“We were, as we often do, making jokes about people in the news," Letterman said.
