Mel Gibson opens up about girlfriend's pregnancy

The Oscar-winning actor-turned-director, who is in the middle of a multi-million dollar divorce from his wife of nearly three decades, Robyn, confirmed Monday that his Russian girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, is expecting their baby during an interview on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”.

In response to the host’s question whether Grigorieva is pregnant, Gibson said: "This is true. We're gonna have a child," adding jokingly, "I guess I'm Octo-Mel."

The child will be the eighth for Gibson, while the second for Grigorieva, who has a teenage son with British actor and former James Bond star Timothy Dalton.

And when Leno asked about the baby's gender, the actor responded: "A human being, I think."

It was only last month when the 53-year-old “Braveheart” actor went public about his romantic relationship with Grigorieva. Just two weeks after Robyn filed for divorce, Gibson introduced his new lady love to the world as he walked hand-in-hand with her at the Los Angeles screening for 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' at Hollywood's Grauman's Chinese Theater.

Although, the couple had called it quits almost three years back, Robyn officially filed for divorce in Los Angeles court last month, citing irreconcilable differences with the "Lethal Weapon" star.

Robyn, who has seven children with Gibson, aged 10 to 26, had filed for divorce from her husband of 28 years only a few weeks after he was spotted playing on a beach with his girlfriend.

On the breakdown of his marriage, Gibson told Leno: "I did a pretty good hatchet job on my marriage."

On his pending divorce, Gibson, dressed in blue jeans, blue blazer and white shirt, said he and Robyn split up three years ago, less than a month after his infamous drink-driving arrest in Malibu.

"My wife and I, our marriage ended three years ago and we’ve been separated ever since then. These things happen. It's unfortunate, it's sad, but you know she is an admirable woman - we still got kids together, we're friends," he said.

However, he emphasized that his separation from his wife had nothing to do with his romantic relationship with her Russian singer/pianist girlfriend.

Gibson also acknowledged that he met 39-year-old Grigorieva in 2008 after she had been signed to his Icon Records label.

The "Lethal Weapon" actor and Robyn, also 53, who married on June 7, 1980 in a Catholic Church in Forestville, New South Wales, Australia, have seven children together- one daughter and six sons.

Their seven children are daughter Hannah (born 1980), twin boys Edward and Christian (born 1982), William (born 1985), Louis (born 1988), Milo (born 1990), and Thomas (born 1999).
