Sean Penn married Robin Wright Penn in 1996; In 13 years, they have twice filed for divorce and canceled it
Los Angeles, May 22: Sean Penn, it seems, is in a dilemma – he cannot decide whether he wants to stay with his wife or wants to end his marriage of 13 years. Only three weeks after filing for divorce, the actor withdrew his petition to split from wife Robin Wright Penn. This is the second time the couple has quashed a legal separation.
Arrogant mistake
According to records, the two-time Academy Award winning actor had filed for separation in Marin County last month, citing irreconcilable differences. But probably within a few weeks love again resurfaced and the couple realized they did not want to call it quits. On Thursday, Penn requested the court to dismiss his legal separation case.
Records do not indicate what made him take the decision but Penn later told the New York Daily News that filing for divorce from his wife was only “an arrogant mistake”.
On-and-off relationship
Previously in December 2007, Penn and his wife had decided to go their separate ways and filed for a legal separation. But only four months later they asked the court to dismiss the proceedings.
The couple, who tied the knot in 1996, has two children -- daughter Dylan Francis, 18, and son Hopper Jack, 15.
At the Academy Awards this year, Robin Wright and Sean Penn walked the red carpet together but some tension between the two was hinted at, as the 48-year-old actor, while taking the Oscar for his role in ‘Milk’, neglected to thank his wife in his acceptance speech.
However, at the Governor’s Ball later that night, Penn said that he had discussed his speech with his wife, prior to the show. He explained that both of them knew there wouldn’t be “enough time” to mention everyone.
Wright Penn, 42, has worked in a variety of movies including ‘The Princess Bride’, ‘Forrest Gump’ and recent thriller State of Play. She worked alongside her husband in 1997's 'She's So Lovely' and 1998's 'Hurlyburly'. Currently, Wright Penn is sitting as a juror at the Cannes Film Festival.
Sean Penn was earlier married to pop star Madonna, but the union couldn’t last beyond four years and they separated in 1989.
