Los Angeles Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore confirmed that junior O'Neal was arrested Sunday morning for possession of narcotics and for bringing those drugs into the county detention center.
Oscar-nominated actor O'Neal’s troubled son’s arrest came during a routine security check in the parking lot of Pitchess Detention South Facility in Santa Clarita. Redmond was giving a ride to a friend at the facility.
"At about 9:30 a.m., our deputies did a routine security check on a car in the parking lot of one of our jails," Whitmore says. "Redmond was driving the vehicle, and admitted to deputies he was in possession of drugs." However, Whitmore did not reveal what type of narcotic Redmond was carrying.
Redmond was arrested and is being held on $25,000 bail.
Redmond’s arrest comes on the heels of news that his cancer-stricken mother, Farrah Fawcett, has been hospitalized since Thursday after her cancer relapsed in her three-year battle with cancer.
The 62-year-old reportedly is in critical but stable condition. The NY Daily News reported that the former "Charlie's Angels" actress, who was diagnosed with anal cancer in 2006, has slipped into unconsciousness.
Meanwhile, this is not Redmond’s first brush with the law as he has broken the law several times in the past. Most recently, Redmond and his father were arrested on Sept.17, 2008, after authorities said they found methamphetamine at the actor's Malibu home during a routine probation check.
In February, a Malibu court issued a bench warrant for O'Neal’s wild child after he failed to show in court for his arraignment on drug charges stemming from his September 2008 drug bust.
In 2007, Redmond was arrested for carrying heroin and crystal meth while driving under the influence in Malibu. In 2005, he was put on probation stemming from an arrest on suspicion of methamphetamine and cocaine possession.
Redmond is currently serving probation for a June 2008 DUI and drug possession conviction.
