With increasing craze of logging-into social networking sites such as MySpace, Orkut and Facebook, experts warn that people could be actually putting themselves at risks like identity theft and stalking. Take basic precautions to protect yourself;
• Check the website’s privacy policy. Websites allow restricted as well as unrestricted access to posted content. If possible, restrict access to your profile so that only close friends can view your information.
• Consider omitting full names, addresses, phone numbers, maiden names or any other personal details that could allude to passwords.
• Similarly, choose a username that doesn’t contain personal information.
• Personal photos can be altered. Beware.
• The internet is open to the public, post stuff you don’t mind people knowing.
