Chicago, March 6: Oprah Winfrey officially declared she has stepped into the shoes of 'mommy hood' on Friday’s 'Live!' show. The television world was introduced to Oprah’s new baby Sadie, a 10-week-old blonde cocker spaniel.
The 55-year-old talk show queen recently adopted Sadie from a litter of 6 puppies which were brought to the PAWS shelter on Clybourn Avenue in Chicago.
The PAWS shelter is a no-kill facility where the animal-rights advocate have sponsored a room in honor of Oprah’s deceased dog Sophie. An excited Oprah thanked PAWS profusely for her new love while announcing to her audience, "I'm a mom again."
On the show, Sadie appeared wearing an orange and pink polka dotted jacket. Oprah shared photographs of her new puppy eating, wearing a pink Ralph Lauren sweater and napping with a stuffed bunny.
When best friend Gayle King asked how she and longtime partner Stedman Graham selected the adorable puppy, Winfrey said, "The dog chose me, she was on my shoulder, nuzzling."
Oprah went out of her way to make Sadie feel at home by placing her crate in her own bed. She also mentioned how the past week has been sleepless for her.
Winfrey’s adoption not only made Sadie an overnight star, but also shed some limelight on PAWS. The browser traffic of the dog adoption section of PAWS website doubled since the exposure.
Owner Paula Fasseas quotes, "The Web site has been inundated, as well as the phones and adoption center. We are thrilled because homeless animals are getting the recognition they deserve."
For Oprah, the buck did not stop at the adoption of Sadie. After her first public appearance, Sadie’s three brothers were also brought on the show informing viewers that they, too, were up for adoption.
Co-host Ali Wentworth held a pup and pleaded on camera to her husband George Stephanopoulos, begging to take one puppy home. Producers state that by one p.m., all the other puppies, too, had been adopted into loving homes.
Sadie joins the other members of Winfrey's family of menagerie and golden retrievers named Luke and Layla.
