Los Angeles, February 28: Ed McMahon’s health is deteriorating. He has been hospitalized for almost a month with various medical problems, including pneumonia and bone cancer and his condition is 'extremely serious', said a source close to the entertainer.
The famous sidekick to Johnny Carson on ‘The Tonight Show’ is currently under intensive care at a California hospital.
Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman said McMahon, who turns 86 next week, is down with pneumonia but he did not confirm the reports of his bone cancer, published by Entertainment Tonight.
However, he admitted McMahon is in very bad health. “It is serious," Bragman said. "We appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers."
"He's a fighter. He's a Marine. He's a strong man, and we remain hopeful at this point," Bragman told the Daily News. "He's not the type of guy you count out."
McMahon had it tough last year. He defaulted on millions of dollars in home loans and remained a lot under pressure to avoid foreclosure. He also went through an assortment of lawsuits.
The performer claimed that his financial troubles are only a consequence of his broken neck, which left him unable to work. Later, he tried to recover his finances by suing the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, accusing them of discharging him with a broken neck and two failed neck surgeries. He claimed fraud, battery, elder abuse and emotional distress.
In a separate matter, he was sued by a lawyer, who claimed that McMahon hired him for his daughter’s case but did not pay for his services.
Back in April 2003, McMahon claimed the toxic mold left behind from a job done on his Beverly Hills house had sickened him and his wife and killed their family dog Muffin. He sued several companies and received $7 million.
