New York, February 19: A meek little fish tank light set Tracy Morgan’s lavish home on fire, which called for 78 firefighters from 25 units to control it.
Morgan’s apartment on the 16th floor of Trump Place at 160 Riverside Blvd. was set ablaze on Wednesday morning, setting off sprinklers on several floors of the building.
The fire broke at 8:34 a.m and was declared under control by 9:01. The "30 Rock" star was home at the time the danger struck his dwelling but fortunately, he escaped unhurt. The fish, including a shark were also saved from getting roasted.
The flames was contained to the area around the aquarium, Morgan said, adding “the fish are OK.”
The fire was blamed on a faulty fish tank light, which ignited the blaze inside Morgan’s luxurious Upper West Side home. Internal sprinkler system of the posh building was activated at once.
By the time firemen arrived on the scene, the sprinklers had already done their work and also caused water damage across many other units in the building.
The "Saturday Night Live" alum, who depicted Brian Fellow, a man with a "6th-grade education and an abiding love for all god's creatures,” expressed appreciation for the Fire Department.
"My thanks to the New York Fire Department for their quick action," Morgan, 40, said in a statement after the smoke had cleared. "Fortunately, the fire did not spread and no one in the building was hurt.”
Sheri Shepherd, co-host of "The View", who plays Morgan's TV wife on "30 Rock" and lives in the same building, went on air to say she had received a call from her nanny telling her about the fire; the floor had been flooded, she said.
