Los Angeles, February 10: Nick Cannon, husband of the famous popstar Mariah Carey, has been named the new host of ‘America's Got Talent’.
The 28-year-old musician, comedian, actor and producer, still has more to add to his profile. He will display his entertaining talent in the disguise of a host, on the NBC talent competition series, which is set to return with its fourth season this summer.
Cannon’s addition onboard was announced by the network on Monday.
NBC is all excited to have him in their team, and they hope to keep hold of the man for other projects in future. This variety show is the first of "multiple projects we are looking to do with Nick at NBC," said network chief Ben Silverman.
While in his teens, Cannon got an early entry into the entertainment industry through the Nickelodeon series ‘All That’, following which he starred in his own MTV show “Nick Cannon Presents Wild 'n Out”.
He has recorded with many big names of the music industry and is also credited for reputable appearances in films like “The Killing Room” and “American Son”. Cannon was honored as the Breakthrough Actor of the Year for his 2006 movie “Bobby”.
Nick Cannon is expected to bring a younger face and greater appeal to the talent series, which is already among the most-watched summer shows.
He will be the third host for the popular NBC series, which was earlier presented by Regis Philbin and Jerry Springer. The versatile star will take over the stage of “America's Got Talent” from Springer, who announced his decision to step down last week.
Sharon Osbourne, Piers Morgan, and David Hasselhoff are the celebrity judges on the show, which offers a whopping $1 million prize for the winner. It is produced by FremantleMedia North America and Simon Cowell of “American Idol” and entertains performers of all ages and categories.
Singers, dancers, jugglers, cartoonists, magicians are all invited to display what they’ve got, on “America’s got Talent”. Last season’s winner was an opera singer Neal E Boyd.
Auditions for the new series are scheduled to start in the coming weeks, across various cities of the United States.
