'Four Christmases' topped the box office in holiday cheer

Los Angeles, December 1: Thanksgiving weekend movie, ‘Four Christmases’, released by Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc., grossed a hefty $31.7 million in ticket sales this holiday season, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Los Angeles, December 1: Thanksgiving weekend movie, ‘Four Christmases’, released by Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc., grossed a hefty $31.7 million in ticket sales this holiday season, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Holiday comedy of Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn, “Four Christmases” has topped the North American box office this weekend with heavy ticket sales. Four Christmases is considered the third-best Thanksgiving weekend opener with $46.7 million from Wednesday to Sunday ever, after Toy Story 2 of 1999 ($80.1 million) and Enchanted ($49.1 million) of 2007. Four Christmases has won the race by outpacing other movies running in theaters.

It is the second best thanksgiving weekend period of Hollywood in terms of revenue. In the 2000 Thanksgiving weekend, the revenue was $232.2 million and in this weekend all the top 12 films grossed $223.7 million.

‘Four Christmases’ is a Christmas themed romantic-comedy film. It is the story is of a San Francisco based happily unmarried couple Brad (Vince Vaughn) and Kate (Reese Witherspoon) who go to see all four of their divorced parents on 25th December i.e. Four Christmases in one day. The story is about how they struggle with four relative-choked festivities.

Dan Fellman, head of distribution for Warner Bros, said, "It was the perfect time. It's the only movie out there that deals with Christmas."

In terms of ticket sales, Disney's animated “Bolt" had got second position with $26.6 million for the weekend as compared to $26.4 million for "Twilight” of Summit Entertainment LLC. The other movies running in theaters were “Quantum of Solace” with $19.5 million ticket sales and “Australia” with $14.8 million ticket sales.

John Leguizamo’s tale "Nothing Like the Holidays” releasing on Dec. 12 will likely compete with Four Christmases.
