Washington, November 26: Three years after launching Xbox 360, Microsoft has come up with another innovation in their product. The company has come forward with latest software that combines home entertainment with Xbox in a big way.

Microsoft describes it as the “New Xbox Experience”. It is a complete makeover of the console software. It can be downloaded on Microsoft’s website for no additional cost. Apart from entertainment features, one can enjoy social networking as well as shopping features, which were also available earlier through Xbox Live.

With the latest upgradation, Xbox has gone far ahead of what Sony’s Playstation Network has to offer.

The most interesting feature is the streaming video service from Netflix. All one needs is an Xbox Live membership and a Netflix account. This can directly get the video onto your TV from the game console.

The Xbox Live membership offers two options for users to choose from. One can either enroll for a free basic membership or pay $50 a year to avail the gold membership required for playing games online.

The Netflix account costs as low as $9 a month for one-disc plan. Through this viewers can access a large number of movies and TV shows.

Netflix has a wide range of movie titles and combining it with Xbox will be a fruitful business, since a lot many people have Xbox 360s in their homes. The number is huge as compared to TiVos or Roku boxes.

But as always, there are downsides here too. The Xbox does not serve as the ideal entertainment device. The noise coming from the fan can bug the viewer while he is watching his favorite movie.

Moreover, the game controller is not aptly designed for navigating online video clips or DVDs. Nevertheless, Xbox entertainment can be given a try as the primary source for watching internet videos on the big screen.
