Critics find ‘Four Christmases' devoid of fun

San Francisco, November 26: The movie “Four Christmases” has been hailed as a movie of excesses that fails to draw positive response from the audiences or the critics. Contrary to the claims of it being a romantic comedy, it ends up as a disastrous encounter leaving no room either for fun or entertainment.

Despite being studded with the talented star cast, this movie is another lack-luster Hollywood comedy run-of-the-mill production. No doubt the movie has some sprinklings of funny moments here and there, but that also fails to win the accolades from the cinema buffs.

There appears to be a total mismatch between the two central characters of the movie, namely Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon. The chemistry between the two is found to be missing making the whole experience an awkward one. Despite their individual competitiveness, they do not gel well together as a romantic couple. That fails the romantic theme of the movie.

The movie has Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon as a long-time couple who do not believe in the institution of marriage and are against having kids. Every time Christmas time approaches, they always come up with plans to avoid confrontation with their divorced and estranged parents. However, the blinding fog plays a spoilsport with their planned trip to Fiji cancelling their flight and leaving them with no option but to meet their extended family members out of obligation.

The issue around which the storyline revolves is that, being children of divorced parents, they find it hard to believe in the virtues of institution of marriage and relationships. The film could have been better had the filmmakers bothered to delve a little deeper into the psychic realms of its central characters.

Although occasionally amusing, the film is a sure disappointment for those who would have thought it as a hilarious family entertainer.

All said and done, the film ends up as total mess.
