William Balfour, person of interest in the Hudson triple murder case, allegedly confessed to his girlfriend he was involved in the murders of Jennifer Hudson’s mother and brother, according to a report from the Chicago Tribune.
The Tribune cited sources as saying that Balfour told his girlfriend he was involved in the murders, and the woman in turn told police what he told her.
Balfour acknowledged being at Hudson's Englewood home on the morning Hudson’s family 57-year-old mother, Darnell Hudson Donnerson, and her 29-year-old brother, Jason S. Hudson, were discovered shot to death, and her young nephew was abducted and later killed.
However, Balfour’s girlfriend reportedly told police that he was involved in the shootings of Donnerson and Jason, but not in the death of Hudson’s 7-year-old nephew, Julian King, the son of Oscar winner Jennifer’s sister and Balfour’s estranged wife, Julia.
Hudson's family tragedy happened on the afternoon of Oct. 24 in their home on the South Side of Chicago. Julian was declared missing soon after the fatal incidence, and was found shot to death in an abandoned SUV a few days later.
Balfour, 27, was romantically involved with the Hudson’s sister Julia, who too has identified him as her husband on her MySpace page.
Police have named Balfour a person of interest, and no one has been charged with the killings.
Balfour served seven years in prison for attempted murder and vehicular hijacking. Records show that in 1998, he hijacked a Chevrolet Suburban which he then smashed into a light pole, fence, and iron gate with its owner still hanging to the top.
A warrant was issued by the Illinois Department of Corrections on Saturday for his parole violations and for not attending programs for anger management and substance abuse.
Balfour’s parole violations can keep him in jail for the remainder of his parole, which is until May 2009 minus a day off for every day good behavior. He could be released in mid-December at the earliest.
Balfour is due to have a hearing before the Illinois Prisoner Review Board Monday morning, where the board would decide on whether he violated the terms of his parole or committed a crime.
