‘Dangerous’ Leads Fall Box Office

In what is expected to be a weak season at the box office, the Lionsgate remake in English - "Bangkok Dangerous,", has shown quite a prosperous start at the box office, bagging a $2.7 million on the first Friday of the fall.

Starring Academy Award-winning, American actor Nicolas Cage, the movie which is playing in 2,650 theatres is the only wide release of the season.

With lots of summer pics still lingering around and their impact still fresh on the minds of viewers; it gets hard for the fall pic to trade big. Having run out on its steam in countries like France and Spain, the movie gathered a total of $5million only internationally.

The movie that centers on the various aspects of the life of a hit man was originally released in the Thai language with a restricted distribution, earlier in 2001. At that time, it had generated $24,000 from 2 prints. It was made by Hong Kong film makers Danny and Oxide Pang.

Cage who stars in the film, has also worked as a director and producer, through his production company Saturn Films. he has two Academy Award nomination to his credit in 2007. he one an Academy Award for his performance in - Leaving Las Vegas.

With “dangerous” holding the No. 1 slot for this weekend, Paramount-DreamWorks' "Tropic Thunder," which held position for the past three weekends, dropped to No. 2 with $2.1 million from 3,446. However, it has done a cumulative business of $91.4 million till now.

Third was Sony's comedy "House Bunny" starring Anna Faris with $1.7 million, down 33% at 2,736, with its total amounting to $32.8 million.

Still managing beautifully to remain in the top five, the summer block buster, Warner Bros.' "The Dark Knight" closed fourth with $1.4 million, down 33%, off 2,575, with an unbeatable total of a whopping $507.9 million.

"Traitor" finished in the fifith slot with a $1.3 million in its pocket,off 2,108, declining 41% decline for a 10-day B.O. take of $14.3 million.
