They thought they had made the discovery of the century. Sadly, for Matt Whitton and Rick Dyer, the breakthrough was nothing but a rubber Halloween costume of “Bigfoot”.
The Bigfoot hunters stumbled upon their discovery while hiking in Northern Georgia in the month of June. The findings were placed in a freezer for preservation. They participated in a press conference at Palo Alto to discuss and announce their findings.
On August 17th, Bigfoot enthusiasts waited in anticipation for the revelation of the century. As the body defrosted, a dark patch of hair emerged. When a hair sample was extracted and burnt, synthetic fibers were revealed.
Steve Kulls, Executive Director of Squatchdetective.com stated that the sample, “melted into a ball uncharacteristic of hair”. The group’s fears were confirmed an hour later when further melting revealed a rubber foot.
Bob Schmalzbach, Vice President of Searching for Bigfoot, Inc stated in an interview with Fox News that the hoax was heart wrenching. He also said, "We thought it was the answer to a mystery that's been going on for too long."
According to details posted on the website of Searching for Bigfoot Inc, the company is going ahead with its decision to pursue legal action against the perpetrators.
Matt Whitton is a police officer at Georgia's Clayton County, and Rick Dyer, a former Georgia corrections officer. Both are missing since the discovery of the hoax.
Clayton County Police Chief Jeff Turne, has not got in touch with Whitton, but says that he is going ahead with the procedure to dismiss him of his duties.
Turne quotes, Whitton “has violated the duty of a police officer. Once he perpetrated a fraud, it goes into his credibility and integrity."
The costume is believed to be the property of online costume retailer, thehorrordome.com. It is estimated to be for about $450 but the store owner refuses to release any numbers.
Ironically, everyone isn’t surprised to know that the discovery is a hoax.

That was pretty funny, but I know that it was fake.
