Actor Morgan Freeman has been discharged from a Tennessee hospital, just days after he broke his arm and shoulder in an accident. The Oscar-winning actor was admitted to Memphis' Regional Medical Center after being seriously injured in a Sunday-night car accident, in which a female passenger was also injured.

The 71-year-old actor was finally discharged Thursday, three days after undergoing four-and-a-half-hour surgery for his injuries, the Regional Medical Center in Memphis spokeswoman Kathy Stringer confirmed.

"I left the hospital today (Thursday) just after 12 noon, Memphis time," Freeman said in a statement released by his rep Ken Sunshine. "I'm doing very well. I feel real good. I just really, I thank the staff at 'Elvis Presley [Hospital]' and many, many thanks to my many well-wishers. It's great to know people care about you.”

"He's recovering nicely at home, and his career will continue as planned," rep Ken Sunshine said.

Freeman was driving a1997 Nissan Maxima late Sunday near his home in Charleston, Mississippi, when his car suddenly went off the road and flipped over several times before coming to a rest.

The “Million Dollar Baby” actor and the female passenger named as Demaris Meyer, 48, had to be extracted from the wreckage with the help of the Jaws of Life (hydraulic cutters), and were airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis on Sunday night for the treatment.

Freeman suffered a broken arm, broken elbow and minor shoulder damage in the accident, while Meyer, who reportedly is a longtime friend of Morgan's wife, Myrna Colley-Lee, reportedly suffered only minor injuries.

According to Bill Luckett, the actor’s Mississippi-based attorney and business partner, Freeman’s total recovery is expected to take months, and he will be required to wear a neck brace for six to eight months, and his arm will take several months to heal.

Luckett, who co-owns a restaurant and blues club in Clarksdale, Miss., with Freeman, also revealed Thursday that the Academy Award winning actor is divorcing his wife of 24 years, Myrna Colley-Lee.

Luckett was quoted by several media reports as saying that Freeman and Colley-Lee, a costume designer for theater, have filed for divorce. According to him, the divorce was in the works before Freeman’s Sunday-night car accident. The actor and his wife Colley-Lee “are involved in a divorce action,” he said adding that the two have been living separately since December of 2007 for legal and practical purposes.

Born on June 1, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee, Freeman is a versatile actor, who has performed in numerous roles from children's television to Shakespearean drama. He rose to fame with his appearances in a string of well-regarded motion pictures, including “Driving Miss Daisy,” “Lean on Me,” “Glory”, and “Million Dollar Baby.” In 2004, Freeman won an Oscar for his supporting role in "Million Dollar Baby." Freeman, an actor, film director, and film narrator, is the co-star of the most recently released summer blockbuster “The Dark Knight”.

Morgan married his wife Myrna Colley-Lee on June 16, 1984 after eight years of dating. He was previously married to Jeanette Adair Bradshaw from October 22, 1967 until 1979. The actor has two sons, Alfonso and Saifoulaye, from previous relationship. He adopted his first wife's daughter, Deena, and the couple also had a fourth child, Morgana.
