Jessica Simpson gets Booed on going Country

Jessica Simpson’s first country performance received a mixed response. As the singer stepped on stage to open for Sara Evans at the 15th Annual Country Thunder USA Festival in Randall, Wisconsin, audiences booed and clapped simultaneously.

The-28-year old blasted out covers of Willie Nelson and Shania Twain hits, as well as songs from her new album ‘Do You Know.’

"This is my first time being onstage in three years. Coming out tonight makes me extremely emotional,” said Simpson, choking through tears. "I'm so happy I went through that because it makes life so much more beautiful."

Among the audience, was present Simpson’s beau – Tony Romo. "Tonight there's this guy here, he throws a football and he's really good at it, he's my better tomorrow and I wrote this song for him," she told the crowd and dedicated ‘You’re my Sunday’ to him.

Although some fans at the concert were all praise, others did not even feel like sitting through it. "I'll have to drink a lot of beer to sit through her concert," said a concertgoer.

"I just don't hear the country in her; I don't hear the twang,” said another. “She's not good enough to be here."

On sensing the crowd’s aversion Simpson said, "I don't know what your perception is of Jessica Simpson or what tabloid you buy, but I just want you to know that I'm just a girl from Texas; I'm just like you. I'm doing what I love and dating a boy."

Despite all that derision, event producer Gil Cunningham felt that Simpson did really well for her first country performance. Singing for more than 25,000 fans is a big step, he said.

Cunningham also has an excuse for booing hoots, which according to him weren’t much. "I may have heard some when she mentioned Tony Romo,’ he said. “You're going to get booed when you mention him to a bunch of Packer fans."

However, Simpson did not seem to mind the crowd’s negative reaction much as a rep for the singer later said, she felt fantastic about the show. “She felt at home with country fans and the other country artists who were there,” said Cindi Berger.
